North Bay Police ERT Team Invites Canadore College Students to Participate in Training Scenarios
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted an emergency response training exercise on January 28 in the vicinity of E.W. Norman Public School and Widdifield Secondary School.
Students from the Community Justice Services and Police Foundations programs at Canadore College were invited to observe and participate in ERT training scenarios. The exercises focused on breaches and searches, allowing students to engage in scenarios while also observing tactical training in action.
“This collaboration gives students hands-on experience and mentorship,” says A/Insp. Corrente. “We are grateful for the partnership we’ve developed with Canadore that allows us to provide these opportunities to local students. Simulated training scenarios help prepare the next generation of public safety and law enforcement professionals for the workforce, while connecting them with our NBPS members who can serve as mentors.”

“Mentorship partnerships with organizations like the North Bay Police Service are invaluable in helping our students bridge the gap between theory and real-world practice,” says Kindra McMillan, Professor, School of Community Justice and Police Studies at Canadore College. “These relationships provide meaningful learning opportunities while strengthening community connections and preparing future professionals who understand the realities, responsibilities, and rewards of a career in public service.”
NBPS ERT employs specialized skills, tactics, and equipment to protect public safety and respond to unpredictable situations. ERT members regularly participate in training exercises to ensure readiness for all types of high-risk incidents.
