North Bay turns 100 on Monday

By Richard Coffin

The community is being invited to a special event on Monday as North Bay celebrates 100 years of city status.

April 14 marks the day North Bay was officially granted city status by the province.

A formal proclamation starts off the City Hall event at 11 am on Monday, with a short video presentation showcasing the city’s journey over the past century.

Display booths highlighting the city’s history and future will be set up, there will be centennial cookies, a giant birthday card to sign and more.

The celebration runs from 11 am to 1 pm and is one of many planned throughout the year.

A large celebration is planned for August, coinciding with a 1925 event, when North Bay was officially presented with its city charter and hosted its first Old Home Week.
