North Bay’s CIBC Run for the Cure takes place Sunday

Rhonda Croghan says her life changed Nov. 24, 2021.

That’s the day this year’s Hope Speaker for North Bay’s CIBC Run for the Cure was diagnosed with stage four Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Croghan says her life changed that day.

She’s had chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, and with a couple of spots on her bones and part of a tumor she continues treatment, including chemotherapy pills, and goes for scans every four months to make sure the cancer has not progressed.

“I just try to take each day one day at a time,” says Croghan. “Knowing that I’m going to live with cancer for the rest of my life I have to do that. I just try to be positive and have hope.”

North Bay’s CIBC Run for the Cure takes place on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the waterfront.

With Croghan the Hope Speaker, it gives her the opportunity to tell her story.

“Even though you hear ‘stage four’ it doesn’t mean that it’s that terrible. I’m stage four but I’m still living my life,” she says. “I pray that I will continue to live a long life. I sit here with a smile on my face but I’m just grateful to be alive.”

Opening ceremonies for Sunday’s event begin at 10:15 am at the Kiwanis bandshell, with the run/walk starting at 11 am.
