NOSDA applauds move to make-Community Paramedicine program permanent

It’s being described as a transformative investment in seniors’ health and well-being across Northern Ontario.

That from chair of the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA) and Timmins Mayor, Michelle Boileau, on the province making the Community Paramedicine for Long-Term Care (CPLTC) program permanent.

The province says an additional $89 million is also helping expand the service, including into First Nations communities.

“Community Paramedicine has already proven its value in our districts by reducing emergency room visits, supporting aging in place, and easing pressure on our long-term care system,” says Boileau. “Making this program permanent provides certainty, sustainability, and much-needed continuity of care for seniors living in rural, remote, and Northern communities.”

The Community Paramedicine program started in 2014 at the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

“We commend the province for recognizing the unique needs of Northern and Indigenous communities and expanding access to these services in First Nations such as Pikangikum and Weenusk,” adds Boileau. “This investment aligns with NOSDA’s longstanding advocacy for equitable health care access across Northern Ontario and demonstrates a strong commitment to improving health outcomes for all.”

NOSDA says it looks forward to working with the Ministry of Long-Term Care, local paramedic services, and Indigenous health authorities to support the rollout and continued success of the program.
