Online Reporting Delivers Strong Results in First Eight Weeks

Eight weeks after launching its online reporting system, the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) is reporting positive operational results and strong feedback from both the public and NBPS members.

Since May 18, 2026, NBPS has received 113 reports through its online reporting system. Incidents reported have included thefts from retailers, thefts from residents, thefts from motor vehicles, and traffic-related complaints.

Investigations resulting from these reports have led to 20 people being charged with a total of 41 criminal charges being laid. Charges include theft under $5,000, breach of probation, and failure to comply with a release order.

NBPS introduced the system through a soft launch between May 18 and June 1, 2026. During that period, 32 reports were submitted, resulting in 11 criminal charges.

To evaluate the new reporting system, approximately 20 people who submitted online reports were contacted for feedback. Respondents described the reporting process as easy to use and convenient. No significant concerns or issues were identified.

Additionally, the NBPS Communications Centre has also reported positive operational impacts. Dispatchers have noted a reduction in minor and non-urgent calls requiring dispatch and say callers have responded positively when offered the option to submit eligible reports online.

"Each online report is reviewed by a dedicated team of officers responsible for assessing, investigating and following up on eligible incidents,” said Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. "It is a convenient and efficient way to report non-emergency incidents. It also helps ensure our frontline resources remain available to respond to emergencies and high-priority calls for service."

"The positive feedback we've received from both the public and our NBPS members demonstrates that this system is improving the way we deliver services," Warner said. "We're encouraged by the results we've seen in the first eight weeks and look forward to continuing to expand the service."

The NBPS reminds residents that online reporting is intended for non-emergency incidents only. Crimes in progress and emergencies should always be reported by calling 911.
