Ontario Invested $3.9 Million to Restore 4,500 Kilometres of Snowmobile Trails
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced earlier this year that, to protect Ontario’s snowmobile network and the communities that rely on it, our government provided the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) with an additional $3.9 million, bringing total support to $4.9 million for the 2025–26 season. This targeted funding enabled the full reopening of 4,500 kilometers of trails while we work with the OFSC on a long-term trail strategy.

“With a landmark year for snow accumulation in Nipissing, we’re pleased that the Ontario government had invested $107,119 to the District 11: Near North Trail Association so they could reopen over 145 kilometers of trails for people to enjoy,” said MPP Fedeli. “Snowmobiling plays a significant role in our region as a key economic driver. Reopening these trails this winter was essential to supporting local businesses, protecting tourism revenue, and ensuring riders can safely access Ontario’s trail system.”
“We would also like to thank all the volunteers with the Near North Trail Association for their dedication to maintaining the trails for both locals and tourists who enjoy our area. Trail maintenance involves much more than grooming; it also includes clearing trees and debris, posting signs, building and repairing bridges and water crossings. Mother Nature often delivers weather that forces these volunteers to prioritize trail work over other responsibilities and go out to clear the trails as soon as possible," added Fedeli.
“On behalf of OFSC District 11/ Near North Trail Association, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Ontario Government for its historic investment in both our local trails and the broader provincial network. This vital funding has been instrumental in allowing District 11 to effectively reopen and maintain our trail systems at their current level. It has been a great year for snowmobiling in our area with Mother Nature providing an opportunity for some late March riding. Our dedicated District 11 volunteers remain committed to supporting our local businesses and the economic benefit this sport brings to our communities. We look forward to a continued partnership with our government stakeholders to ensure the ongoing growth and sustainability of snowmobiling in Ontario.” ~John Miller, Governor, OFSC District 11/President, Near North Trail Association.
Snowmobiling continues to be one of the province’s most popular winter activities. With over 30,000 kilometres of trails to travel, Ontario has a world-class snowmobile network that attracts visitors from around the world.
Ontario’s snowmobile network contributes up to $6 billion of economic activity annually. This funding is one more way our government is protecting Ontario by strengthening tourism, creating jobs, and supporting local economies across the province.
