Ontario investing $1.25 million to build new fire hall in Magnetawan

Magnetawan is getting a new state-of-the-art fire hall.

The Ontario government is investing $1.25 million, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), to help the local municipality build a new fire station.

According to provincial officials, the Magnetawan Fire Department’s existing workspace was small and outdated, and needed to be replaced.

NOHFC funding will allow the municipality to build a new 8,320-square-foot fire station with three bays, new equipment and a training room.

“This new fire hall in Magnetawan will help the municipal fire department operate more efficiently and strengthen protection across the community,” says Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith. “It will also support the volunteer firefighters who work tirelessly to keep residents safe and help prevent tragedies.”

Mayor Sam Dunnett thanks the provincial and the NOHFC for the investment in the community.

“This significant funding commitment strengthens our ability to provide safe, reliable emergency services to our community,” says Dunnett. “The new facility will support our dedicated volunteer firefighters with modern infrastructure, improved equipment storage, and enhanced operational capacity. This investment not only improves public safety but also reinforces our community’s long-term resilience and growth.”

Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $1 billion in over 8,200 projects in Northern Ontario
