OPP say black ice led to first in series of collisions on Hwy 11

By Richard Coffin

Ontario Provincial Police say poor driving conditions led to multiple collisions on Highway 11 between South River and Powassan Wednesday morning.

Both directions were shut down to traffic at times with heavy tow crews brought in to clear the roadway.

The initial collision and closure report from Ontario 511 came in after 5 am.

The southbound lanes of the highway reopened just after 8 am.
