OPP training at the Sturgeon River House Museum on Thursday
Don’t be alarmed if you see an increased police presence at the Sturgeon River House Museum on Thursday.
Officials say that’s because the North-East Region OPP Emergency Response Team is taking part in police training exercises at the Fort Road location in West Nipissing.
“Residents may notice a higher number of marked police vehicles, officers on foot, or simulated scenarios taking place from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.,” states a release. “These activities are part of regular, planned training and do not pose a risk to public safety, however area residents are asked to maintain a safe distance should they encounter officers involved in the training exercise.”

Officials say ongoing training is essential to ensure officers remain prepared, skilled, and capable of responding effectively to emergencies.
They add these exercises help officers remain proficient in areas such as public safety, decision-making, communication, and operational readiness.
The OPP adds they appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during the training, saying community safety remains their top priority, and continuous training allows officers to better serve and protect the public.
