By Richard Coffin

A 22‑year‑old resident of Orillia is facing several charges in North Bay after an intimate partner violence investigation, which also saw police recover a handgun from a vehicle.

Last Friday, at approximately 10:30 p.m., members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 9‑1‑1 call reporting a domestic assault in progress in a motor vehicle on Highway 11 near Sand Dam Road.

When officers arrived, they found the victim on the shoulder of the roadway suffering from visible injuries, while the accused had fled on foot into a wooded area.

They were arrested and face eleven charges, including spousal assault, uttering threats, careless storage of a firearm, fail to comply with a probation order, and more.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody, with an April 29 court appearance in North Bay.
