Paper Kings double Voodoos

Graydon Guthrie scored twice and Andrew Gaulton made 35 saves as the Espanola Paper Kings defeated the visiting Powassan Voodoos 4-2 at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex Friday night.

The Paper Kings opened the scoring just past the midway point of the opening period when the dangerous Lucas Signoretti capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity beating Voodoos starter Daniel Dirracolo for his 37th to make it 1-0 Paper Kings.

Less than two minutes later, on a scramble in front of Dirracolo, Jack Lynes netted his 14th for a 2-0 Paper Kings lead after the opening period.

The Paper Kings added to the lead on an early second period power play, as Graydon Guthrie got his 14th off a rebound on a power play to increase their lead to 3-0.

Just over a minute later, the Voodoos finally solved Gaulton on a 2 on 1, as Chase Thompson slipped one past the Sudbury Wolves prospect to make it 3-1.
The Voodoos pulled within one midway through the period when Will Rivet put home a rebound from the slot to make it 3-2 at 10:42.

However, early first the Paper Kings offence struck again as Owen Fergusson made a quick pass in the slot to Guthrie as he potted his second of the game less than a minute into the third period.

With the victory, the Paper Kings in that tough battle for fourth in the NOJHL West move to 29-18-1 while the Voodoos drop to 27-17-0-2 on the season.
