Party promises on expanding Highways 11/17

All four of the parties at Queen’s Park are promising improvements to northern highways.
The Progressive Conservatives announced on the weekend they’ll expand Highway 11 with another 220 kilometres of 2+1 highway design from Temiskaming Shores to Cochrane.
PC leader Doug Ford says they’ve already started the process of widening 11 from North Bay to Temiskaming Shores, with a couple of 2+1 pilot projects initiated.
The design offers a passing lane that changes direction every two to five kilometres.
Ford also reaffirmed ‘Northlander passenger rail service is on track to re-enter service next year’.
At the recent FONOM leader’s debate, the New Democrats’ Marit Styles promised to widen highways 11 and 17 while the Liberals’ Bonnie Crombie said they would adopt the 2+1 for 11/17.
The Green Party’s Mike Schreiner said they’ll make improvements to those two highways, with innovative solutions like 2+1 needed while waiting for highways to be four-laned.
