November 24, 1947 – February 20, 2025
With a heavy heart, the Truchon family announces the passing of Peter Edward Truchon on February 20, 2025, at Cassellholme in North Bay. Peter was born and raised in North Bay and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. All who knew him will deeply miss his emotional presence and thoughtfulness.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Susan (née Hampel), his daughters Becky (Michael Saini) and Missy (Brad Poeta), and his cherished grandchildren Patrick, Leah, Nicola, McKinley, and Madingley. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings Carol, Dennis, Tisha, and Michael, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Etta Truchon, and his siblings Gerry, Fran, and Dicky.
Peter dedicated his career to shaping the roads of Northern Ontario, working first with the Ministry of Transportation before becoming a highway engineering consultant. His expertise and dedication left a lasting mark on many of the region’s highways, a legacy that will serve future generations.
An avid athlete and outdoorsman, Peter had a lifelong passion for community sports and excelled in broomball, hockey, and softball. Whether competing on the ice or the field, enjoying a round of golf, or casting a line in the water, he found joy in being around others engaged in sports. Peter also loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, always with quiet but unwavering support and a knowing smile.
Known for his quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering dedication to those around him, Peter was a steady and reassuring presence in the lives of his family. Though a man of few words, he was also a gifted storyteller, sharing his jokes, memories and life lessons. We will miss his thoughtful advice, the time to solve problems with him, and his ability to find the fix.
Peter’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cassellholme for their compassionate and individualized care. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where friends and family can come together to honour his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, continuing his legacy of care and kindness.
