Platform helping area background actors find work

A new platform called Background Work has been launched. 

Film and TV background actors in our area have a new way to connect with casting professionals.   

“Northern Ontario has a thriving film industry, and we’re excited to bring more opportunities to local talent and give performers the chance to work on set equitably,” says Saman Raza, co-founder. “Our platform is designed to make background performing accessible and rewarding, and we look forward to supporting productions in this dynamic region.” 

Background actors can create online profiles, showcase their skills and experience, and apply for roles online.   

Officials say the expansion kicks off with a major television series filming in Sudbury this spring, providing new opportunities for aspiring and experienced background performers across the region.    

There is a cost involved although there is a special promo offer for Northern Ontario residents (by sending an email to info@backgroundwork.com).  

Having supported background casting for major projects on Netflix, Lifetime, Hallmark, and Paramount, the company says since launching in April 2024 they’ve booked over 1,000 background performers, 15 music videos, three television series and 22 feature films.  

Its initial focus was work in the Ottawa area.
