Police remind drivers studded tires need to be off by May 31
If the lack of snow, ice and cold temperatures wasn’t enough of a reminder, city police say the deadline to remove your studded tires is getting closer.
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) says under the Highway Traffic Act, vehicles registered in Northern Ontario may use studded tires between Sept. 1 and May 31.
If they’re still on after that, drivers can be fined.

“NBPS also reminds motorists that studded tires are less effective on bare pavement than all-season or summer tires, which can impact traction and increase stopping distances in warmer conditions,” states a release.
Police encourage motorists to remove studded tires before the deadline to improve road safety and avoid potential penalties.
