Possible High Performance Sports Academy for area high school students
Canadore College is gauging interest in a proposed High Performance Sports Academy for area secondary school students.
This as the college completes work on its new state-of-the-art sportsplex.
Officials previously announced the 85,000 square foot domed facility will support year-round soccer, golf, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, dry land training, and sport conditioning.
They say the facility, located at the Commerce Court Campus in North Bay, has been designed in consultation with community user groups and is rooted in a long-standing need for covered turf and hard court surfaces.
Canadore says it’s committed to combining high performance sports training with education to foster leadership skills in young athletes and is working on creating a sustainable framework to support sports programs.
The college adds that may include dual credits, specialized courses, electives, and certifications with a focus on leadership development and the athlete's chosen sport.
The proposed program would be available to students in grades 7-12, through their current school and participating school boards.
An online survey has been created to find out the community’s level of interest.
