Posthumous national honours for area man
A local man has been posthumously awarded the 2026 CIM Distinguished Service Award by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
Officials say Bernie Robertson was the driving force behind the success of the CIM Northern Gateway Branch for more than two decades.
They say from helping relaunch the Branch 20 years ago to serving as Vice Chair and leading the Annual Golf Tournament for 18 years, Robertson’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering “can-do” attitude left a lasting impact on the organization and the mining community.
The branch says Robertson spent more than 30 years as a highly respected expert in risk management and insurance for mining and mineral exploration companies.
“Bernie’s legacy continues to be reflected in the strength of the Northern Gateway Branch, the success of programs he helped champion—such as Mining Matters and the Mining Teachers’ Tour—and the countless relationships he built throughout his career,” states a release.
The award was presented during a gala event at the CIM National Convention in Vancouver, with Mark Wagner, chair of the Northern Gateway Branch, attending on behalf of Robertson’s family.
