Powassan caps off road trip with win in Blind River

Notching a goal in each period Sunday, the Powassan Voodoos went on to a 3-1 triumph over the Blind River Beavers in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League afternoon affair at the Blind River Community Centre.

The visiting Voodoos took the lead four and a half minutes into the matchup when Jesse Lefebvre took a cross-ice pass on the right side from Devran Brown and sent it past Beavers’ netminder Justin Sullivan.

In the second stanza, Ryan Saginaw clicked on the power play midway through the proceedings with his team-best 30th tally as he came out from the side boards and wired one upstairs to make it 2-0.

Cutting the lead in half with a shorthanded effort, Caleb Walker skated up ice out of his own end with his team down a man and after moving into the right circle, used a defender as a partial screen, and snapped a shot past Cole Vreugdenhil in the Voodoos’ net.

Moving to the final frame, it was Blind River product Dylan Rousselle who put Powassan back up by a pair as he chipped in a backhand during a man advantage with 10:40 remaining.

A solid forecheck by the guests the remainder on the contest helped secure the result as they went on to earn the road result.

The win raises the Voodoos overall record to 30-12-1-2 while in defeat, the Beavers fell to 14-29-0-4.
