Powassan Fall Fair receives donation from Northern farm group

By Richard Coffin

A northern farm group is giving a boost to area Fall Fairs.

The Northeastern District of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) is donating $3,500 to agricultural societies in Powassan, New Liskeard, Laird Township, Cochrane, Massey, Warren, and Providence Bay.

“Fall fairs are important to northern farmers,” says Bonita Mercer, treasurer of the CFFO’s Northeastern District and a long-time fair volunteer, horse-pull competitor, and musical performer. “Fairs bring farmers, their neighbours and urban folks together to have fun and learn about agriculture. As a farm group, we want to keep our fairs and communities vibrant and strong.”

Nicole Bucknell, President of the Powassan Agricultural Society, says the donation will help sponsor the popular Heavy Horse Pull.

The Powassan Fair takes place Sept. 5-6.

The Northeastern CFFO represents over 100 farm families from Muskoka to Hearst.
