Premier highlights Northlander return in ROMA speech

By Richard Coffin

Premier Doug Ford is touting several programs and funding announcements his government has made that are benefiting rural and Northern Ontario.

That includes the return of the Northlander passenger train, which was one of the topics he discussed in his speech to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference in Toronto on Monday.

“Communities stretching from here to Muskoka, to North Bay, to Timmins and all the stops in between, will have easier access to more job opportunities, healthcare and education,” he says.

But, that’s not all.

“The revived Northlander will also help unlock the province’s full economic potential by supporting northern industries and the resource sectors that are set to expand,” Ford adds.

The premier also commended Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli in his speech saying he’s been on this for the past five to six years.

Last month, the province announced construction is set to begin on platforms along the Northlander route.
