Projected drop in enrolment

Leads to lower staffing levels at NNDSB
Staffing levels at the Near North District School Board (NNDSB) are being impacted by a projected drop in enrolment.
The board says enrolment is expected to be down about 3.6% compared to 2024-25 estimates.
The figure is included in the approved budget for the next school year.
“71.4 per cent of the budget is composed of salaries and benefits; and projected staffing full-time equivalent (FTE) has decreased by 38.7 in response to the projected enrolment decrease,” states a release from the board.
Trustees have approved the $196 million budget, which includes an operating deficit of $1.2 million.
It also includes an in-year deficit elimination plan, which is being submitted to the province.
The deficit in transportation is nearly $2 million.
“This transportation deficit cannot be eliminated without further funding from the Ministry of Education,” states the board.
Meantime, the runners up in the last election are being asked if they’d like to join the board of trustees.
This after recent resignations left two seats vacant.
If not, the board will go with an application and appointment process.
