Province calling for Federal investments in NORAD
Ontario’s plan to strengthen security on land, water and in the air along the Canada-US border includes calling on the feds to invest in the future success of NORAD operations and NORAD base restoration.
That’s one of the many components to Fortress Am-Can, a renewed strategic alliance between Canada and the U-S that Ford has been touting in recent weeks.
Investing is NORAD is tied into the province’s call for Ottawa to present a credible and accelerated plan to meet and exceed Canada’s two per cent NATO target for defence spending.
“Building Fortress Am-Can is our government’s plan for a renewed strategic alliance between America and Canada and demonstrates our responsibility as an essential ally dedicated to protecting our land, air and water,” says Ford. “In an increasingly unstable world, Fortress Am-Can can protect integrated supply chains, ensure our economic stability and growth, and detect and prevent any threat to our two nations. Ontario is ready and has the strategic capabilities to do our part to get this done.”
22 Wing North Bay, also known as the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS), is responsible for providing surveillance, identification, control and warning for the aerospace defence of Canada and North America at the Sector Air Operations Centre.
In July 2022, the Federal Government announced a $38.6 billion plan to modernize NORAD over twenty years.
