Provincial funding for Seniors Active Living Centres

By Richard Coffin

The province is helping more seniors, including those in our area, keep fit, healthy and active in their community.

$3.7 million in fourth quarter funding is going to 316 Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) across the province.

Seven centres in our region are receiving money.

They include:

  • Callander Elderly Persons’ Centre (Legion Branch 445): $6,600
  • East Ferris: $12,500
  • North Bay Golden Age Club: $12,500
  • Mattawa Senior Citizens Club: $12,500
  • Field Golden Age Club: $6,750
  • Sturgeon Falls Golden Age Club: $12,500
  • The Sundridge Happy Gang: $5,062

“This year, we have increased our investment in Seniors Active Living Centres by almost one million dollars over last year, to provide seniors with more opportunities to access programs and supports,” says Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

The government is also expanding the number of SALCs by 100 across Ontario to 416 with announcements to be made early this year.
