Provincial funding to reroute North Bay trail

Improvements are on the way to a dozen snowmobile trails across the north, including one in our area.
The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is receiving over $550,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for the projects.
They include installing new culverts, repairing trail bridges, and rerouting existing trails that will better connect communities.
In North Bay, the trail between Four Mile Lake Road and Northmount Road is being rerouted.
“With over 30,000 kilometres of trails, more than 14,000 kilometres of which are in Northern Ontario, our province is a premier destination for snowmobiling,” says George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “By investing in important recreational infrastructure, our government is supporting healthy and vibrant communities throughout the North, increasing tourism, strengthening local economies and ensuring Ontario’s trails remain safe and enjoyable for years to come.”
The province says tourism in Northern Ontario has generated up to $1.4 billion worth of spending, adding 150,000 domestic visits to the region in 2022 included snowmobiling as an activity.
