Red light for Roundabout on Lakeshore and Booth

A signalized intersection is now expected for Lakeshore Drive and Booth Road.
That’s a change from a few years ago, when a roundabout was the ‘preferred solution’ for the location.
Council is set to vote on awarding the nearly $1.9 million contract to EllisDon, which is building the new Community and Recreation Centre.
“This intersection work will impact the construction work of the North Bay Community and Recreation Centre and will introduce risk to that project,” states a staff report. “To mitigate these risks, the project is being awarded to the Design-Builder of the North Bay Community and Recreation Centre through a single-source procurement.”
Officials say it ensures effective coordination to minimize conflict between the projects.
According to the staff report, the intersection will be converted into a signalized intersection, featuring dedicated signalized crossings for active transportation users and pedestrians.
The city says the enhancements are designed to manage both current traffic conditions and future increases expected with the opening of the community and recreation centre.
Another contract up for a vote is $3.2 million worth of sidewalk and stormwater improvements on Commerce Crescent and Wallace Road.

Also on Tuesday’s Council agenda is a recommendation to give access of city-owned land on Memorial Drive for Armed Forces Day 2025.
The Snowbirds, CF-18 Demonstration Team and SkyHawks Parachute Team are lined up for the free event on Wednesday, June 4.
Static displays will also be set up on the waterfront, with thousands of school children expected to take part once again this year.
City budget discussions continue Monday evening with a special committee meeting set for 5:30 pm in the Mayor’s 5th floor boardroom.
