Remembering the Battle of Britain

The anniversary of the Battle of Britain is being commemorated on Sunday in North Bay.

Members from 22 Wing/CFB North Bay, veterans and cadets will be there.

The ceremony, which includes a wreath laying, will take place at 1 pm at the Memorial Park Cenotaph on the corner of First Avenue West and Ferguson Street.

Officials say during the battle, Canadian air and ground crews teamed up with Allies from over a dozen countries to draw a line in the air to halt westward advances by the Nazis.

A total of 1542 Allies lost their lives in the Battle of Britain, including 23 Canadian pilots.
