Representation on Cassellholme board on Tuesday’s council agenda
Council is expected to tab two new council representatives on the Cassellhome board.
A staff report on the two vacancies is coming up at Tuesday night’s meeting.
At the last meeting a motion to maintain councillors Chris Mayne and Mark King as the representatives, despite being removed by the board, was defeated.
Meantime, Council is being asked to join the call for ‘meaningful’ safety improvements on Highways 11 and 17 in the north.
A councillor motion is coming to Tuesday night’s meeting echoing a motion from the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.
They want to see safety improvements, including increased passing opportunities through four-laning or the 2+1 highway model.
The motion also calls on the province work with northern municipalities, Indigenous communities, and the federal government to modernize the ‘critical national transportation corridor’.
Officials say Highways 11 and 17 are essential corridors that support Northern Ontario’s resource economy, connect communities to health care and services, and carry significant national supply chains.
The add Northern Ontario continues to experience a troubling number of serious collisions and highway closures each year.
