Residents being asked to help ‘Tackle Hunger’

By Richard Coffin

The Purolator Tackle Hunger campaign in support of the North Bay Food Bank is underway.

About 2,000 Purolator Red Bags were dropped off in select neighborhoods around the city on the weekend.

Residents are asked to fill their bags with non-perishable food items and leave them on their doorsteps by 9 am on Saturday, June 21 to be picked up by Purolator couriers.

All Red Bags will then be delivered to the food bank to help those in need.

Officials say the North Bay Food Bank assists 800 to a thousand people each month, with 27 per cent of them children.

If you didn’t get a red bag, donations can be made online at the food bank’s website

Last year’s campaign saw nearly 7,500 pounds of food donated locally.
