Residents urged not to do any unauthorized burning

By Richard Coffin

North Bay Fire & Emergency Services says unauthorized burning puts people’s lives at risk.

After several recent grass fires, officials are urging residents not to burn illegally.

“Over the past few weeks, our crews have responded to multiple grass fires caused by illegal burning,” states a release.  “These fires have spread quickly due to dry conditions and wind, coming dangerously close to homes, businesses, and forested areas. Fortunately, no lives were lost but the risk is real, and the consequences could be devastating.”

Reminders include:

  • All outdoor burning within the City of North Bay requires a valid permit
  • Burning grass or yard waste is strictly prohibited under city by-laws and the Ontario Fire Code.
  • Fines and charges may apply to anyone found responsible for unauthorized burning

Officials say fire safety is everyone’s responsibility.
