Results of Traffic Enforcement Initiative
The North Bay Police Service partnered with the Ontario Provincial Police and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to conduct a traffic enforcement campaign on Thursday June 6th. While the focus of the initiative was on speeding and other unsafe driving practices, tickets were issued for a number of different offences throughout North Bay.
Extra resources were deployed during the campaign, and as a result the following were issued:
· 54 Provincial Offence Notices for infractions including; speeding, distracted driving (cell phones), improper mufflers, seatbelts, and tinted windows
In addition,
· 4 License plates were seized
· 6 Commercial Motor Vehicles were placed out of service
“These results show the importance of increased traffic enforcement, targeting vehicle modifications and unsafe commercial vehicles.” says North Bay Police Service Inspector of Operations, Jeff Warner. “Violations such as Speeding, Distracted Driving and Fail to Properly wear Seatbelt, cause significant injuries and death across the province every year and are a problem in our own community. Working with our policing partners from the OPP, and the MTO enforcement officers, we charged a number of people in our ongoing efforts to improve road safety. With the warmer weather now upon us, and the end of the school year approaching, e-bikes, scooters and kids on bicycles will increasingly be on our roads. I encourage everyone to slow down, drive appropriately, eliminate your distractions and arrive to your destination safely. The NBPS is dedicated to traffic enforcement throughout the year”
