Ricci Signs with Fredonia State
Voodoos defenceman Carson Ricci has committed to play for the Fredonia State University Blue Devils located in New York state for the 2024-25 season, the Voodoos announced on Sunday.
The Blue Devils play out of the competitive NCAA Division III State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Ricci is in his third season with the Voodoos. This season the skilled defender has netted 4 goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 34 games.
Peter Goulet, Voodoos' head coach with a reputation for helping his players move on to college hockey, believes Fredonia is a perfect fit for Ricci.
"Fredonia has a great hockey program and is a great school for Carson to continue his education," said Goulet congratulating his defenceman.
"Carson has always been at the top of his class when it comes to education, and Fredonia has the program he wants and most importantly the education he desires."
Ricci, the 2004 birth year defender from Kleinburg, Ontario cherishes his time with the Voodoos.
"Playing in Powassan has been awesome," admitted Ricci who has family roots in North Bay. "From my teammates down to the coaching staff and ownership. It’s been a great experience.
"The support from the fans and the community has been great each year I’ve played here. Nothing like a 'Friday night in P Town,' as coach Daler would say."
Ricci sends out special credit to Goulet and associate coach Josh Hardiman for helping him along the way.
"Both Pete and Josh have been great coaches and even better people which is what has made coming to the rink fun every day," said Ricci. "I’ve learned a lot from both of them and I want to thank them for that. Going forward, I’m excited for my next chapter but I will absolutely miss playing for the Voodoos."
Ricci is the second Voodoos player to commit to a U.S. college this season, as Tucker Shields announced he will be attending Liberty University next fall.
