Rita Costello

Rita Costello

1950-2024

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Rita Costello (née Bouffard), who was born on February 27, 1950, in Cache Bay, Ontario, to the late Corona (née Lachance) and Hector Bouffard. Rita peacefully departed this life at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 74, surrounded by her husband, children, and numerous family members.

Rita married her devoted husband, Linford Costello, on September 26, 1970. Their love was a true testament to partnership, and she cherished the opportunity to renew their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary, celebrating their enduring commitment. Together, they raised two children: Sean Costello (Marilyn Trelnuk) and Mylae Robson (Bruce).

Rita took immense pride in her family and delighted in watching it grow, including her four beloved grandchildren: Tyson Costello, Madison Costello, Brook-Lynn Raymond-Robson, and Landon Robson. The relationships she fostered with her children and grandchildren were as unique and beautiful as she was.

Rita is now spiritually reunited with her sisters, Lorraine Pilon (André) and Diane Bouffard; her brother, George Lachance (Cécile); her brother-in-law, Doyle Costello (Diane); and her in-laws, Thelma and Elgie Costello, along with her nephew, Donald Lachance.  She will be fondly remembered by her sisters Rolande Lavoie (Gilles) and Paulette Martel, her brothers Michael Bouffard (Suzanne) and Roger Bouffard (Heather), and her sisters-in-law Maple McLaren (Grant), Fawn Meechum (Mike Lucky), and Heather Nichols (Doug). Additionally, Rita leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, along with great-nieces and great-nephews who will forever treasure their memories of her warmth and humor.

Rita was known for her contagious smile and her ability to bring joy and laughter to those around her. She often surprised family and friends with her spontaneous wit, and her creative spirit shone through in the thoughtful gestures she made for others. Whether it involved crafting puzzles, wreaths, or personalized centerpieces for family gatherings, she poured her heart into every creation, often investing hours of effort to ensure each detail was special.

Throughout her life, Rita was a beacon of support for all who knew her. She embodied patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, near or far. Rita cherished quiet moments, often seen enjoying a book or observing the birds in her backyard while holding her beloved teacup poodle, Kizmo.

The lyrics of her wedding song perfectly encapsulate her essence, which played for her as she transitioned to the next life: “When no one else can understand me, when everything I do is wrong, you give me hope and consolation, you give me strength to carry on, and you're always there to lend a hand in everything I do, that's the wonder, the wonder of you.” – *Wonder of You*, Elvis Presley.

In accordance with Rita’s wishes, there will be no formal ceremony. Close family will gather for a private dinner to quietly reflect on this significant loss.
