Road to the Brier and Tournament of Hearts goes through North Bay

By Richard Coffin

The North Bay Granite Club is set to host the Northern Ontario Curling Association’s men’s and women’s provincial playdowns.

From Jan. 6-11, rinks from across the region will be competing for the chance to represent Northern Ontario at the national curling championships, the Montana’s Brier and the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Last year’s champions, Team John Epping and Team Krista Scharf are returning, with the Granite Club well-represented with four teams.

They include Team Jeff Brown and Team Riley Winters in the men’s, and Team Abby Deschene and Team Joanne Forget in the women’s.

Laura Johnston, Manager of the North Bay Granite Club, says tickets are available for fans to come out and watch some of the best curlers in Northern Ontario.

“Full event passes are available for $75—specially priced to honour our 75th anniversary of curling in North Bay,” says Johnston.  “Our club has a proud history of hosting major events, and we are excited to once again showcase our world-class facility, passionate volunteers, and warm community spirit.”
