Robert John "Jack" Casson
It is with deep sadness that Jack’s daughters share that he passed away peacefully at home on August 21, the girls holding his hands and surrounding him with love.
Dad loved, and was loved by, his children: Melissa, Tara (Robert), Danielle (Treth), Todd (Deanne), Troy (Cris), and Brett. A forever special place in his heart was always held by his grandchildren: Papa to Abigail, Grampa to Nolan, McKenzie, and Graydon, and Poppa Jack to Tyler and Tristan.
Jack was a loving brother and best friend to Ron (Phyllis), Sue (Dan), and Ken. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He may have left us, but he went to the loving arms of his wonderful and much-loved parents, Bob and Maggie.
Jack had a never-ending litany of stories that tied to his many different career choices throughout his life, most notably as a long-haul truck driver and ending his career with the Near North School Board. Jack told stories (repeatedly!) with his trademark booming voice and boisterous laugh, sometimes we think that alone was what made people laugh the hardest. His annual Boys Fishing Trip was one of legends that brought him great joy, as did that epic trip to the Poconos, and – quite honestly - far too many adventures and fun, with far too many people he loved to mention.
Dad fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, defying the odds against him as only he could. A battle he never complained about; instead, he focused solely on living every day the best he could with love, happiness, and laughter at the forefront. The definition of resilient and a life well lived. A man who was loved by all that were a part of his life. A man whose three girls will love endlessly, a rare bond shared by the four of them that will never break.
The girls would like to extend a special thank-you to three women that were an integral part of his journey and who provided care, comfort, and support through his time at home, and who are forever a part of the Casson family. To the ladies of Heartsease Home Care - there are few words to express how we feel and so we will simply say thank-you to Lynn, Bonita, and Kim. A special thank-you to Sheryll who was with the family in the early stages of Dad’s battle and helped Dad navigate his journey. Dr. Emack, Dr. Moore, the team in the Chemotherapy Clinic at NBRHC, the entire Community care team, Dr. Spencer, and Sandie were with us every step of the way. If desired, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation (Chemotherapy Clinic) can be made in Jack’s honour.
The girls will be hosting a Celebration of Life at the Casson-MacLeod Ranch (the lake) on Saturday, September 7th, starting at 2 pm. This will be an informal setting; drop-in when you can, stay as long as you’d like, and join the family in raising a toast. It will be a time to share love, memories, and laughter as Dad wanted. Food and drinks will be served, please bring a lawn chair if desired. Online condolences at www.hillisidefuneral.ca
