Salvation Army North Bay Marks 130 Years

The Salvation Army North Bay is now officially located on the overpass.
A grand opening and ribbon cutting was held Friday morning at 743 Main Street East.
Major Stephanie Watkinson, North Bay Community Church & Community Services, says they’re really trying to impact those that are dealing with poverty.
“Which a lot of us are struggling from day-to-day, week-to-week, so how do we help them improve their current situation,” she says. “It’s not just a matter of giving things out. It’s a matter of how do we teach financial skills, how do we teach cooking skills, how do we help them with their mental health and cope with that.

An open house continued into the afternoon on Friday for people to check out their new space, with a couple of events lined up for Saturday.
There is a prayer breakfast at 10 am, with pre-registration required, then a family fun event from 2-4 pm on Saturday.
A celebration worship service takes place Sunday morning as officials mark 130 years of ministry and service in North Bay.
“Early days it might be a sandwich and soup for travellers coming through North Bay on the train,” says Watkinson. “The history is we’ve had clothing before. We’ve helped out after fire. We have kids going to camps. We’ve had big bands here. It’s evolved and it’s constantly changing.”
She encourages people to check them out on Facebook to see what’s happening and what they can offer assistance with.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store is also located on the overpass, too.
