Scott Wayne Nielsen
Born in Toronto, Ontario on June 28 1962, Scott headed to Heaven on Thanksgiving Day (Oct 13 2025) at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice North Bay, Ontario. He was only 63. He fought the cancer hard but being a Nielsen, he was very quiet about it.
Scott was the middle child, who had the knack of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, being blamed for things that he did not even do, or simply struck by bad luck. He proudly bought his first car only to have it totaled when someone ran a stop sign. He brushed his teeth faithfully yet still ended up with cavities. He was the one stung by the stingray because he actually listened to our parents and gt out of the ocean.
That was Scott’s journey, full of challenges, but marked by persistence and quiet strength.
Scott spent his working years in North York and Barrie, serving as a Zamboni operator and rink maintenance worker in North York, and a sand/snowplow operator for the City of Barrie. Scott particularily enjoyed his snowplow working days as he had many fine stories to tell.
Dedicated to fitness, Scott kept up with weight training throughout his life and stayed strong and fit, yet he was a gentle soul. He loved nature, animals and children and always tried to bring laughter to those around him
In retirement, Scott truly found his home in North Bay. He became the neighbourhood watchman, looking out for others, putting away recycling and garbage bins, cutting lawns, or lending a hand when needed. One neighbor joked that when Scott moved in, so did the animals. The birds, the deer, and chipmunks all seemed to be drawn to him.
He made many special friends as well in North Bay and loved connecting with people, whether it was the fishing spots, the bike shop or just around town. His kind deeds were quietly executed. For such a reserved man, he made attempts to speak to others wherever he was.
Then came his beloved E Bike. Scott could often be seen cruising around with his racing sunglasses, exploring every corner of North Bay. No doubt, he’s riding an E bike in Heaven now.
Scott leaves behind 2 daughters Melissa and Faith. Though life’s paths sometimes made it difficult, he loved them deeply. In North Bay, he was blessed to have Havalah, who thought of Scott as her dad and gave him great joy over the past 7 years. He treasured every moment with her from beach days, and cookie making to sharing poutine and Christmas celebrations with her and her family.
Scott is also survived by his sister, Lori, brother-in-law Michael, his brother Mark, and sister-in-law Alison, his nieces Sabrina and Sierra and nephew Andrew. His great nieces Sapphire and Onyx will forever miss his musical cards that arrived yearly.
Scott, you made our mom very proud with your quiet kindness and big heart.
As you remember Scott today, please perform a random act of kindness or ride an E bike in his memory.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held in June 2026 in North Bay.
