Second leaders Debate - Local Candidates go Tuesday

Second leaders Debate - Local Candidates go Tuesday

By Richard Coffin

Here in Nipissing, four of the six provincial election candidates will be debating the issues Tuesday on Cogeco.

Fixing healthcare, building houses and making life affordable for Ontarians were just some of the hot topics in the second provincial leader’s debate.

Liberal Bonnie Combrie, PC incumbent Doug Ford, the Green Party’s Mike Schreiner and the NDP’s Marit Styles took part in Monday night’s session.

Described as a tense room at times, all the party leaders ended up talking over each other during an exchange on housing… forcing Moderator David Common to move to the next topic.

Other issues centred on fighting tariffs, tackling youth crime, reducing emissions and more.

There were also a few lighter moments, when each leader was asked what they’d make for dinner if hosting the others.

It was the second debate for the leaders, who were in North Bay on Friday for FONOM’s Northern Leaders debate.

The candidates from the four parties who have a seat at Queen’s Park have been invited, while the other parties have been offered up to two minutes of free time.

You can watch the debate at 7 pm.

That’s also when it will be added to Cogeco’s YouTube page.

Election day is Feb. 27.
