Senior’s programs receive provincial funding

By Brad Aubin

$75,000 is on the way from the province to support three senior’s programs.

MPP Vic Fedeli has announced about $25,000 each for the Nipissing First Nation Seniors Gardening Club, Mattawa’s Seniors Can Skate program, and a Grandparents Reading in Action program for Saint Vincent and Saints-Anges catholic elementary schools.

“The Ontario government recognizes the importance of investing in senior’s programs, services, and activities that support the health and well-being of seniors across the province,” says Fedeli. “Today’s investment will ensure that seniors in Nipissing have access to a variety of opportunities to connect with one another, keep moving, and live more independently.”

Cathy Stevens, Gimaa (Chief) of Nipissing First Nation (NFN), says the funding will create meaningful opportunities for NFN seniors to stay active, connected, and rooted in culture.

“Through caring for the land and shared spaces, they will strengthen relationships, build confidence, and pass on knowledge to future generations,” she says.  “We are grateful for this support to nurture both the well-being of our Elders and the spirit of our community.”

The money was provided through the Seniors Community Grants Project.
