September traffic safety initiative continues
City police are reminding motorists if you drive safely and with the speed limit you get to keep your car.
This after the North Bay Police Service says a driver had their licence suspended and vehicle impounded after going more than twice the speed limit in a school zone on Monday
Police say the vehicle was travelling 81 km/h in a 40 km/h school zone on Lakeshore Drive on Monday.
In late August, the service announced a traffic safety initiative would be taking place the entire month of September.
Officers are targeting motorists that disobey traffic laws, especially in community safety and school zones.
According to the province, drivers involved in stunt driving or street racing are subject to an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension and an immediate, roadside 14-day vehicle impoundment.
Meantime, Stock Transportation reported on Friday that the first eight days of school busing saw 19 documented school bus light infractions on its routes.
In a social media post, the bus operator says 18 of them happened in city’s municipal area with footage showing "either blatant disregard for the school bus lights or distracted driving”.
License plates from four of the events have been provided to city police.
