Seven teens safely evacuated

City fire officials say a home on Janey Avenue sustained significant damage after a fire early Saturday morning.
Deputy fire chief Greg Saunders says crews responded just after 5 am.
“Upon arrival emergency crews from all three stations were met with heavy fire in the roof and at the rear of the home,” he says. “All of the seven teenagers staying at the home that evening were able to safely evacuate after being alerted to the danger by the smoke alarms in the residence.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated by city fire prevention.
Saunders say this fire is yet another reminder that properly located, properly maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will provide you with the early notification required to safely evacuate both you and your loved ones from your residence in an emergency.
