Several charges filed against ATV driver in Mattawa
A 38-year-old Mattawa resident is facing several charges after the OPP says an ATV failed to stop for a RIDE program in the town.
Provincial police say the incident happened Friday at 6:30 pm on Second Street in Mattawa.
The ATV and driver were located a short time later at a property in the town.
The OPP says a person was uncooperative and resisted arrest but was then taken into custody without further incident.
Along with fail to stop for police, charges include dangerous operation, resist peace officer, driving under suspension and without plates and insurance.
“At the time of the incident, the community was experiencing increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic related to a local festival, creating additional public safety concerns,” states an OPP release.
The accused was later released from custody with an Aug. 25 court appearance in North Bay.
Police say the ATV was seized and impounded under Section 217(4) of the Highway Traffic Act as part of the investigation.
