Several roads off Highway 11 North part of Significant Weather Event declared by the city

By Richard Coffin

The city has declared a Significant Weather Event for several roads off Highway 11 north.

It’s due to the recent adverse weather conditions and the extended closure of the highway.

They include:
· Marsh Drive
· Gregory Drive
· Besserer Road
· Sunshine Lane
· Roy Drive
· Cooks Mills Road
· Berkely Boulevard
· Barnett Road
· Third Line
· Laporte Road

Officials say the declaration acknowledges that, due to current conditions, the municipality may not be able to meet the maintenance timelines set out in Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards, and these roads may not be maintained to typical service levels during this time.

Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to exercise caution if travel is required during the Significant Weather Event.

Updates will be provided once the Significant Weather Event and the road closure have ended and normal services resume.

Also on Monday, West Nipissing declared a Significant Weather Event across the municipality.

It continues until further notice.

Officials say all municipal roads and sidewalks are considered to be in a “state of repair” until the declaration has ended.
