Shirley Marie Yerkie

Shirley Marie Yerkie

On February 9, 2026, Shirley Marie Yerkie passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family she loved so very much. In our sadness, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Ron—together again in a place of love and peace.

Shirley was a devoted mother to Randy (Darlene), Cindy (Reg), Shelly (Marlon), and Leeanne (Chris). Her love was steady and unconditional. She may have stood quietly in the background, but she was always present; cheering her children on and holding their happiness close in her thoughts and prayers.

Her grandchildren Bobbi-Sue, Billi Jo, Brandon, Krystin, and Benjamin knew they were the centre of her world. Whether she was baking gingerbread and doughnuts or stepping in as goalie wearing her oven mitts, she turned simple moments into lasting memories. Her great-grandchildren Dakota, Jayde, Parker, Aiden, Mya, Ryder, Avery, Austin, Maverick, Emma, and her great-great-grandson Hudson will remember her big hugs, warm kitchen, and the gentle reassurance that “Grama loves you.”

Shirley grew up in a lively family alongside her siblings, Ron (Erva), Steve, Jim (Sue), Betty (Gerry), and Kenny (Kathy). The bonds formed in those early years lasted a lifetime. We are grateful to her parents, Frank and Emma Grasser, for raising a family grounded in love and togetherness.

Shirley and Ron cherished weekends with their Wasi Road friends and family, whether it was camping trips, hunting adventures, or simple Saturday gatherings. These moments reflected a life that treasured the simple joys—laughter shared over a campfire, stories swapping across picnic tables, and the comfort of a neighborhood grounded in family and friendship.

Home is where the heart is, and Shirley’s heart was happiest there. She poured love into every corner of her house, from cozy rooms to her thoughtful flower gardens, creating a space that radiated warmth and comfort. The kitchen was her sanctuary; the smell of onions frying in butter and homemade bread in the oven was her love quietly at work. Shirley didn’t just build a house; she nurtured a home, a soft place to land that welcomed everyone.

A mother is often a child’s first and most influential teacher, and Shirley lived that truth. She showed us that character is defined not by ease or convenience, but by the choices we make when doing the right thing is difficult. She guided us through our mistakes with patience and unwavering support, teaching us the value of loyalty, integrity, and living with courage and compassion. She left us with life lessons we carry forward.

Mom,
We will love unconditionally
We will gather
We will show up for people
We will do what’s right - because you showed us how.

Friends and family are welcome to join us to celebrate the life of Shirley and her favourite recipes ~
