SIU not invoking mandate

City police say the province’s Special Investigations Unit has decided not to invoke its mandate after an incident Wednesday night in the 100 block of Main Street West.
The North Bay Police Service says officers responded to a disturbance call and spoke to a victim, who said he was randomly attacked with a sharp object, but didn’t suffer any injuries because of his winter coat.
Police say the victim escaped to his vehicle with the accused banging on it until leaving when police were called.
He was later identified, and police say when officers attempted to contact him at his residence, he got onto the rooftop and attempted to scale the outside of the building but fell to the ground and was arrested.
The accused was taken to hospital with minor injuries and remains in custody for a bail hearing.
