Six North Bay Ski Racing Club athletes nominated to roster

Northern Ontario Division ski racing team back on snow

The North Bay Ski Racing Club (NBSRC) is proud to announce that six of its athletes have accepted their nomination to the Northern Ontario Division (NOD) team.

This upcoming season will be the first for the team after a 15 year hiatus.  Many athletes on previous NOD teams have gone on to find success on the podium at a national and World Cup level. Notable names include Kate Pace (North Bay) who won six World Cup medals and three Canadian downhill championships and Kathy Kreiner, 1976 Olympic gold medalist. Many others from NOD have skied at the national level including John Mealey, Jeff Armstrong, Gord Acton, Bob and Bill Real, Michel Pratte, Cam Culbert and Angela Gougeon.

Athletes participating from North Bay and Mattawa area include:

·        Lauren Moore, U16 female

·        Wyatt Wasylciw, U16 male

·        Finley Prisco, U14 female

·        Lexine Gauthier, U14 female

·        Grant Park, U14 male

·        Thomas Chute, U14 male

“Congratulations to all the athletes who worked hard on and off the snow to receive this nomination,” says, John Prosperi, NOD Director of Athlete Development.  “I’m really excited about having the NOD team back and the opportunities this brings for more northern Ontario athletes reaching the podium.”

Athletes from Searchmont Ski Runners (Sault Ste. Marie), Adanac (Sudbury) and North Bay Ski Racing Club will kick-off their on-snow season with two-weeks training together in Alberta in November, followed by a busy season of training and races throughout Ontario, and wrapping up with a series of provincial, national and international events such as CAN-AMS, Eastern Finals and Whistler Cup.

Throughout the season, athletes will have the opportunity to train with highly experienced club coaches from Searchmont (Gavin Acton, Bob Real), Adanac (Dave Hunt) and North Bay Ski Racing Club (Jenna De Genova).  The key focus for the team will be to develop athletes who will move on to race and achieve success provincially, nationally, and internationally.

“We are fortunate to have a great team of athletes and coaches in the north who are committed to working hard, having fun and becoming champions”, says Jenna De Genova, Head Coach for NBSRC. “I’m confident that together this group will continue to challenge each other and grow as athletes and teammates.”
