SJSH Bears Arts Department Celebrates Student Artists at annual Insights and Sounds & Chalk Fest

Students from the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School (SJSH) Arts programs are excited to continue with the school’s arts festival tradition and present this year’s 38th annual edition of Insights and Sounds to the community.

The event will be open to the public on Thursday, May 23, 2024, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and will showcase a variety of artistic talents ranging from a photograph and art gallery to a variety of drama, music, dance performances and video productions.

"The opportunity to showcase the hard work of our student artists is extremely fulfilling,” cited Brian Overholt, Music Teacher, and Arts Curriculum Lead at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall. “Insights and Sounds is a long-standing tradition at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall, and we are proud to continue carrying the torch!”

The evening will begin with a visual arts and photography gallery walk at 6:00 p.m., followed by the live performances and video productions at 6:30 p.m. The show will take place in the Bishop Carter Auditorium at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, and tickets will be $5 at the door (cash only).

“After countless hours of practice, rehearsals and preparation, the students are ready to perform and showcase our talents to our school, community and the city,” delights Gabriella Maitland, grade 12 student at SJSH. “The arts have become a safe place for my friends and I to grow together, and we cannot be prouder to present it to everyone!”

Members of the community are also welcome to view the stunning chalk art pieces on display on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from at 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at SJSH. Titled Chalk Fest, Fine Arts students at SJSH will utilize square panels of the sidewalk around the High Street entrance to the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board Office to showcase their unique chalk art creations.
