SKINNER, Michael

SKINNER, Michael

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Michael is survived by his wife Margaret, and son Darryl (Cindy). Papa to Tya, Jaden, Sha’re and great papa to Lilly. Michael is also survived by his son Geoff and his son Newtyn.

Michael had an impactful and dedicated career marked by numerous accomplishments. He served as a firefighter in Thunder Bay for many years before joining the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in 1970, where he dedicated 29 years of service and ultimately retired as a sergeant. In 1975, he relocated to North Bay, beginning his tenure with the OPP in Haileybury. Over the years, Michael expanded his expertise by training in various operations, including the marine unit on Lake Nipissing and search and rescue survival. In 1988, he earned a promotion to sergeant in the Northeast Region, where he continued to serve the community with commitment and integrity until his retirement in 1999. Michael’s unwavering dedication to the community left a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

Michael was a truly remarkable individual, beloved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His life was filled with noteworthy accomplishments, including earning his pilot's license and even building a plane in his garage and front yard. Michael embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm; he enjoyed scuba diving, sailing, golfing, photography, fishing, and cruising on his Harley Davidson. However, above all else, his greatest joy came from his love for his family, who were the heart of his world.

Michael fought a very brave battle with dementia, a brutal disease…and now he is at peace, no more suffering.

We will always hold deep gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the NBRHC A1 Unit over a year and by Eastholme over the past two years. The support and compassion they offered were truly unparalleled, and their dedication will forever remain in our hearts.
