Snow water equivalence increased by 34.0 mm since February 14

Recent snow and warm temperatures have compacted the snowpack. Snow depth decreased by 1.1 cm and snow water equivalence increased by 34.0 mm since February 14, reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program. 

 “Average snow depth is 48.8 cm (normal), and average snow water equivalence is 137.7 mm (normal) for all sites,” said Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist. In 2024, the average snow depth for the three sites was 17.2 cm and snow water equivalence was 61.0 mm” she added.

 Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.
