Snowmobile patrols conducted by OPP and MNR on Lake Nipissing
With Lake Nipissing’s winter fishing season officially open, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) held a joint motorized snow vehicle enforcement campaign.
The initiative took place over the first four days of the year.
The OPP says officers focused on safety, compliance, and impaired driving prevention as part of ongoing efforts to keep waterways safe throughout the winter months.
995 people and 326 ice shacks were checked, with four remote camps inspected.
Police say eight Provincial Offence Notices were issued along with 81 warnings and one impaired driving arrest.
Offences and warnings were issued under the Criminal Code, Liquor Licence and Control Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Motorized Snow Vehicle Act, and Off-Road Vehicles Act.
