South Shore Education Centre tops locally in Fraser Institute rankings

By Richard Coffin

Over 3,000 Ontario elementary schools are included in the latest Fraser Institute rankings, including a few dozen in our area.

The rankings are based on nine academic indicators derived from provincewide test results.

The top-ranked school locally is the South Shore Education Centre in Nipissing, with a score of 8.4 out of 10.

St. Luke Catholic Elementary was next with a score of 7, followed by Vincent Massey Public School at 6.6.

South River Public School was third (6.2) followed by Alliance French Immersion Public School in North Bay (5.9).

Officials say the rankings allow parents to compare the academic performance of schools across the province.

“Our Report Cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else, about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Ontario,” says Paige MacPherson, Fraser Institute senior fellow.

Public, Catholic, and independent schools were included in the rankings.
